At PEI, we define components as those items that are purchased or manufactured for the purpose of adding functionality or features to an enclosure. Such things as standoffs, spacers, and metal inserts are some of the more common components used by all enclosure manufactures. Additionally, we consider any hardware item such as fasteners, hinges, and latches to be classified as a component.
If you have previously been involved with enclosure projects, you already know that there is an endless list of items available from hundreds, if not thousands of suppliers. With this in mind, it would take a very large catalog just to list all the possible items available for use on enclosures. As such, we will only address the more common items as well as some detail information, accordingly. For a listing of components and specifications please refer to the corresponding Spec Sheets on our Documents web page or call our customer service department. If you have a special component that you would like to use and it is not listed here, please do not hesitate to let us know.
Below is a list of the more common components used by our customers. Please keep in mind that many of these items are available in a variety of sizes, colors, styles, materials, etc. and you should check with our customer service department to verify that the items is stocked by PEI or to inquire about the manufacturer's lead-time.
Standoffs, Spacers
- Plastic dowels with a center hole used for mounting PCB's, LCD's, Switches, and other electronic items. Such items can be fastened to the standoffs with self-tapping screws. For machine screws, metal inserts can be installed.
Metal Inserts
- Brass, aluminum, or steel threaded sleeves that are sonic welded, heat welded, or mechanically pressed into a plastic substrate, tab, standoff, etc.
Studs
- Steel threaded rods that are sonic welded, heat welded, or mechanically pressed into a plastic substrate, tab, rib, etc.
Screws
- Full range of screws including Phillips pan head and flat head. Sizes include #4, #6, #8, and #10 self tapping; 4-40, 6-32, 8-32, and 10-32 machine thread. Standard lengths of 1/8'', 1/4", 3/8'', 1/2'', and 5/8".
Foot Pads
- Adhesive backed and screw fastening styles. Special 'flip foot' pads available.
