OSD Dimensions

Please visit our parent company, Toolless for more information.

In order for our engineers to design your enclosure, we must have the overall size of the unit, as well as the size and layout of all components, hardware, cutouts, etc. If you have CAD or hardcopy drawings of your enclosure, then we will use them to develop the OSD design. If you do not have such drawings a hand sketch with basic dimensions may be enough for our engineers to begin the design process. As they work on the project, they will contact you for additional specifications and dimensions.

Basic Enclosure Dimensions
At PEI, we layout all drawings using a Cartesian coordinate system. Basically, this system requires that all layout items are referenced to an X,Y datum point.

The first step is to establish the overall dimensions of the enclosure. To assist you with this task, we have developed Un-dimensioned Sample Drawings for each style that show which panels and features need to be dimensioned.

If you do not have some of the required dimensions or if such dimensions are not critical and you would prefer that PEI develop them, you should state that on the drawing as "TBD" when you submit it to us.

Component & Feature Dimensioning
Under our OSD program, we have selected the most common components and features for availability. Where possible, we are able to offer specific items with standard dimensions so that you only have to tell us the location of the item. If you require cutouts for items that are not on our standard list, then you will need to tell us the dimensions of the opening as well as the location on the panel.

To show a component or feature location, we would prefer you follow these guidelines:

  • The datum point is the 0,0 coordinate for X,Y dimensions and is located at the farthest left, bottom point of intersection of the part
  • Circles or primarily round objects such as "D Openings" are measured from their center point to the datum point
  • Straight sided or non-circular objects are measured from their left, bottom corner to the datum point

If you need assistance with laying out your part, we will be happy to to do so, however, if your needs require design work, then there may be some engineering charges incurred and delivery dates may need to be extended.
