OSD Program Overview
Please visit our parent company, Toolless for more information.PEI's "Off the Shelf Design" (OSD) program is the result of utilizing the latest CAD technology and design automation coupled with the years of experience gained from designing thousands of enclosures. By customizing our Pro/E CAD program specifically for our manufacturing process, we are able to modify specially designed 3D models with a minimum amount of design engineering activity.
How OSD Works
Briefly, the program uses three types of data that have been custom programmed for our process:
- Flexible Geometric Designs
- Customized User Defined Features
- Proprietary Family Tables
With these three sources of data, we are able to develop an entire enclosure project with virtually no design engineering activity. What this means is that by simply inputting dimensional data along with dropping and dragging features & components into the model we are able to send jobs to the production floor in a fraction of what a custom enclosure takes...sometimes within a matter of minutes!
Furthermore, our OSD program is structured to handle specific types of standard and custom components and features such that time and cost involved are greatly reduced.
Quotation Stage
The first step in utilizing the OSD program is to submit an OSD Request for Quote (RFQ) form. Typically, the form can be completed in 2 to 5 minutes.
You will be asked to supply the following information:
- The enclosure Style and Access Configuration based the PEI samples
- Overall dimensions of the enclosure (length, width, height)
- Cutouts for corresponding components and features
- PCB mounts, standoffs, fasteners, etc.
- Plastic Material requirements, if known...type, color, thickness, and texture
- Production quantities and required lead-times
Ordering Stage
To order OSD enclosures, the following steps need to take place:
- Submit a PO
- Establish credit with PEI, submit credit card information, or submit payment (see Credit Policy for establishing credit with PEI)
- Submit drawings, sketches, etc. that show design details not included with RFQ, such as specific components, final dimensions, etc.
Design Stage
This stage will typically take 1 day to complete, provided all the needed information is supplied at the time of PO submission. If additional information is required, then it may take slightly longer.
As with our Custom Enclosures, a drawing will be presented to the customer by PEI for approval. Any delays in obtaining approval will affect the final delivery dates for prototypes and production parts.
Prototypal Build Stage
This stage will typically take 1 to 3 days to complete once the design has been approved. Prototype parts can be shipped for "next day" delivery or as specified by the customer.
Production Build Stage
This stage will typically take 3 to 5 day to complete once the prototype part has been approved. If silk screening, painting, shielding, or special order materials are involved, then lead-times will be adjusted, accordingly.
